Shillings Cottage is a tranquil hideaway, lying within the folds of
the beautiful Blackdown Hills.
These picturesque hills straddle the border
of Somerset and Devon. They are designated as an Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty.
Our detached pretty cottage is hidden at the end of a secluded drive.
It is set in an idyllic six acres of sheltered gardens and orchards,
a field away from the nearest country lane, and looks out over the
peaceful Culm Valley.
The cottage is tastefully decorated, featuring
contemporary works by renowned local artists and potters including
Nicola Werner. Visitors have exclusive use of the owners’ heated
swimming pool. A short walk away lies the village of Hemyock with its
Castle,
shops,
take
away, excellent pub, Post Office, tennis courts, bowling green, dispensing
surgery and garage.
Shillings cottage is the one and only holiday cottage, and shares the
gardens and grounds with the resident owners. Much of this is a beautiful
private garden. Here and there among the well-stocked borders and in
sheltered
spots
are seats
from which to relish the sense of peace and enjoy far reaching views.
The entire garden is surrounded by meadows.
If you wander down to the pond you can sit and watch the ducks, geese
and dragonflies. Look out for roe deer, herons and rabbits, listen for
sounds
of pheasants
and the cries of buzzards as they circle overhead.
